THE GATE WHICH ALEXANDER THE GREAT CURSED : MYNDOS
Caria was a region of western Anatolia... Halikarnassos was the most important city of Caria.... (11th–6th century BC)
Ancient Roman author Ariannos tells that Alexander the Great lost a lot of soldiers when they fell inside of the moat in front of the gates of Halikarnassos in 334 BC.
Because of this, it is said that Alexander the Great cursed the MYNDOS gate. The tombs of the dead soldiers are placed next to the gate and they are still preserved today. Right next to them there is a modern hotel.
There is a wall on the east side of the gate. The famous Salmakis beach is 500m from the wall. There is a second gate which goes to Halikarnassos. (ancient name of Bodrum is Halikarnassos)
